Permissions & approvals

Liminal gives you two layers of control: what you allow when you connect, and your approval on every money move.

When you connect, you choose which of these to grant. You can grant any combination, and change it by reconnecting.

Permission What it covers
Read See your balances, transactions, portfolio, payees, and profile.
Memory Let Nim remember and recall facts you tell it (see Nim’s memory).
Actions Draft payments, transfers, currency conversions, savings moves, and trades — each one still needs your approval in the app.

Your assistant only ever sees the tools you’ve allowed. Grant just Read for a look-but-don’t-touch connection; add Actions when you want it to move money for you.

When you ask your assistant to send money, convert, save, or trade, here’s what actually happens:

  1. You ask — e.g. “Send $50 to @jack.”
  2. A request appears — Liminal creates a pending request and pushes it to your phone. Nothing has moved yet.
  3. You approve or decline in the Liminal app — the same confirmation screen you’d see for any payment.
  4. It happens — only on approval does the money actually move. Your assistant sees the result.

A few things worth knowing:

  • Requests expire after 10 minutes. If you don’t approve in time, the request lapses and nothing happens — just ask again.
  • Your assistant shouldn’t say a payment is done until you’ve approved it. If it does, check the Liminal app for the real status.
  • “Send it again” is safe. Repeated identical requests are de-duplicated, so a retry won’t accidentally pay twice — a genuine second payment creates a fresh request.
  • Same trail as always. An action you approve from your assistant produces the same record and receipts as one you started in the app.

Memory isn’t money, so recalling and recording memories don’t need an approval step — they’re covered by the Memory permission. Forgetting a memory is permanent. See Nim’s memory.

Revoke access any time from the Liminal app; it stops working on your assistant’s next request. You can also reconnect with fewer (or more) permissions whenever you like.
